How much did we love Kondu? Enough that we went twice in one week! Seriously, had it once, and then we both (secretly) were craving it. My husbands attempt to go at lunch (without me) was thwarted. As he told me how his lunch plans got off track I realized that I too had been craving it again. So…we went…for dinner, again…during the snow storm – which was fun.
I think part of my love for this place has been compounded by the fact that I have been in a sushi deficit so this fulfilled my sushi craving and lets face it its SUSHI THE SIZE OF A BURRITO. What could be better.
lets eat!
We, of course ordered the Sushi Burritos but they do offer Poke Bowls, Teppanyaki (think stir fry) appetizers, and regular sized sushi. But we came for the Burritos. I ordered the BFF which included shrimp tempura, spicy salmon, salmon, mango, cucumber, cream cheese, avocado, lettuce, mango sauce, chipotle mayo. Hands down I think this is the best one they have. Or at least the best one I have tasted. My husband ordered the Kondu – shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, surimi crab, cucumber, avocado, lettuce, siracha, siracha aioli. His was really good as well, it does have a kick to it – but really mine was better.

When we went back for the second time, I branched out and tried the Sunset Love Burrito – tuna, salmon, cucumber, spinach, sweet pepper, avocado, mango, chipotle mayo, wasabi aioli. It was good, but does not compare to the BFF. My husband who could of ordered something else and let us try something new went with the Kondu again. Once he finds something he likes he sticks with it.

Our second time there we also tried two appetizers; shumai and goyza. Both were really good and we would definitely order again. This is a fast casual – you order and pay at the counter then pick up your food when its ready. Most burritos range between $8.95 to $10.95, which is similar to other burrito places. There is some seating inside, mostly tables for 2 with a couple of tables that you can merge together to make room for 4-6 people. In addition to soda, they also have bubble tea. Check out the menu here. If you are downtown (its located across from Appalachian Outdoors on Allen Street) and want a fast casual meal that isn’t the same ol’ burrito I highly recommend going to Kondu.
