Red Horse Tavern located in Pleasant Gap, PA is on the corner of N. Main Street and E College Ave. Part bar and part restaurant the Red Horse offers freshly prepared food with great service. According to a StateCollege.com article, the current owners took over the Tavern in 2012.

We came on a Saturday and at first, my husband was worried as we were one of the very few cars in the parking lot. And once inside we were the only people in the dining area. But…while we were there the dining area filled up with a good lunch crowd. (Apparently we beat the rush and arrived a little too early for lunch) The menu offers starters, salads, sandwiches and burgers. There is a dinner menu available after 4:00pm which also looked really good (so we will be back for that !).
lets eat!
Our food was delicious and the portions were huge! I ordered the Brisket sandwich which was served on Ciabatta with caramelized onion, smoked gouda and horseradish sauce which basically are three of my favorite ingredients. Score. The Ciabatta was not hard and crunchy as the bread can sometimes be, but fresh and chewy. The horseradish sauce was so good I started to dip my fries into it. And the fries by-the-way, were hand cut and perfectly crispy on the outside with a fluffy interior. The finishing salt is a great addition and does not go unnoticed.

My husband ordered a Reuben, he sub’d out the sauerkraut for coleslaw (so basically a Rachel). I personally don’t understand why he doesn’t like kraut, and I would of loved to taste the Red Horses sauerkraut as I’m sure its good. Like mine, his sandwich was really good, and the perfectly toasted rye bread helped to keep all those coleslaw juices in the sandwich.

I think the Red Horse is a great find. Offering large servings that are fairly priced, its classic American food that tastes great. If you are on that side of town, perhaps a day at the DMV – its just a 5 min drive down the road. We will definitely be back – Wednesday’s they have Fish Tacos, and Crab Cakes on the second Friday of each month. Come check it out !
